{"id":2306,"date":"2016-11-04T17:22:03","date_gmt":"2016-11-04T17:22:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rira.compub.com\/burlington\/?p=2306"},"modified":"2016-11-22T15:25:29","modified_gmt":"2016-11-22T15:25:29","slug":"penguin-plunge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rira.com\/burlington\/pub-talk\/penguin-plunge\/","title":{"rendered":"The P-P-Penguin Plunge!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"intro\">R\u00ed R\u00e1 is proud to sponsor Burlington\u2019s annual Penguin Plunge, where participants brave the freezing waters of Lake Champlain to raise money for Special Olympics Vermont.<\/p>\n<p><span>Back in 1996, a few hardy souls jumped into Lake Champlain during the Burlington Winter Carnival and raised $8,000 for Special Olympics Vermont.\u00a0Today, the Penguin Plunge is Special Olympics Vermont&#8217;s largest annual fundraising effort with events in North Bennington and Burlington. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>In 2016, over 1,200 people participated in the Plunge and raised $474,000 for the organization to support sports training for more than 1,500 Special Olympics athletes. Special Olympics Vermont aids the physical, social, and psychological development of persons with intellectual disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>The Penguin Plunge continues to be one of Burlington\u2019s most popular winter events and we are honored to be a part of it.
